COVID-19 UPDATE 04-30-20

Perdido Bay FC Families –

It has been a very difficult, sometimes scary, and obviously frustrating period of time for so many of us in the Perdido community. We wanted to start by thanking you all for your amazing patience and support through these unprecedented times. As we start to ease out of the many federal, state, and local restrictions that have affected so many parts of our lives over these last 6 weeks we wanted to let you know what is going on at PBFC and what our immediate plans are.

The good news is that the Escambia County Board of County of Commissioners just voted to open back up county athletic parks for organized activities starting on May 1st. Any resumption of organized sports activities does require sports organizations to observe the relevant guidelines for physical distancing and large groups. We fully anticipate that the current physical distancing and group gathering guidelines to gradually loosen over the coming days and weeks so we have considered that in the many decisions we are making.

We have had a variety of contingency plans in place from the beginning of the COVID-19 shutdown to try and relaunch all of our various programs when we finally got the green light to resume operations. We just didn’t know when and if that time would ever come. In anticipation of the potential re-opening of our facilities we recently started polling and communicating with our program directors, volunteer coaches, and staff to assess what we could do in the coming weeks. We are happy to announce that we do plan to resume our Select and Academy Programs later this month and those families will be receiving additional communication and details later today or tomorrow. Unfortunately, due to the massive size of our Recreational program, and the sheer number of volunteers involved, we have come to the conclusion that our Spring Recreational program cannot move forward like we had hoped. As sad as we are about this, we are excited that we do plan on offering a first ever Rec Summer Season starting in mid-June and we have a plan to allow you to transfer the Spring registration to the Summer Season. We also have refund options available for any family that can’t participate in the summer session and we will directly communicate all the options to our Rec families later today or tomorrow.

Lastly, like many households and businesses across our community and nation we are concerned for our soccer club’s financial health moving forward. One of our largest fundraising events (the large Spring tournament we host) was cancelled at the very last hour due to COVID-19 and the inability to run our Spring Rec season like normal will certainly hurt mightily as well. We have made a number of decisions to severely cut back our operational costs and save money where we can, but COVID-19 has not stopped the grass from growing and the facilities from needing upkeep. If you are in position to make a tax-deductible donation to the club by donating your Rec registration fees or donating/sponsoring in some other capacity we would love to have your help. Perdido Soccer has been serving families in this community for over 20 years and we want to be sure that future families and children get a chance to “Play Perdido” for generations to come. We continue to hope and pray that all members of our community stay safe and healthy as we navigate these uncharted waters and if you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out.
